School canceled for Friday, Jan. 23, 2026

School canceled for Friday, Jan. 23, 2026

Due to extreme cold weather conditions, all Anoka-Hennepin schools will be closed Friday, Jan. 23, 2026. This decision has been made for the safety of students and staff as an Extreme Cold Warning has been issued for Anoka and Hennepin counties. Anoka-Hennepin does not have the option for a late start due to the district’s large and complex transportation system.

As weather conditions are expected to improve, high school activities may continue beginning at 2:30 p.m on Friday. Activities will operate as scheduled on Thursday evening. High school students involved in these activities should wait for confirmation from their coach or advisor before attending the activity.

Other operational impacts on Friday, Jan. 23 include:

  • Late activity route buses will not be running.
  • Community Education activities are cancelled, including Adventures Plus school-age child care; aquatics; Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) and Preschool classes; early childhood screening appointments; elementary or middle school after-school/evening activities; adult learning and Project Power programs for adults with special needs; and Adult Basic Education.
  • Facility rentals will continue as planned.

Some staff may be required to report to work. Staff who have questions about whether or not they should report to work for a late shift should contact their supervisor for direction.
